ICD9 Diagnoses and Procedures
Sometimes a more granular view of utilization information is needed. MS-DRGs are often helpful in understanding the types and volumes of services a hospital provides, but sometimes it is important to have more detailed specificity. A single MS-DRG may be made of many different diagnoses or many different procedures.
ICD-9-CM codes, however, designate precise diagnoses and procedures. The ICD9 Diagnoses and Procedures app enables analysis at this more detailed level. It lists the top 20 diagnoses and the top 20 procedures (by volume) and provides a lookup feature to report volumes of any diagnosis or procedure. (CMS regulations, however, prohibit reporting any ICD9 code representing 10 or fewer patients.)
The analyst can also designate primary diagnoses only, secondary diagnoses only, or all diagnoses.
Another app based on ICD-10 codes will be introduced when FY16 claims data become available.
